    Notes

Counter-top divider — how to build it

    Parts

    • Worktop: order one extra length of the same worktop as the kitchen, so the colour and edge match exactly. Cut it to 200 × 30 cm. Standard worktops are about 60 cm deep, so one length gives you the divider plus an offcut.
    • Legs: 2 × IKEA OLOV adjustable legs in black, 25 zł each. They adjust from 60 to 90 cm, which covers the 86 cm needed under the worktop.
    • Wall end: a concealed steel bracket or a wooden batten screwed into the wall. The worktop also screws into the side of the shortened kitchen counter.
    • Underneath: a steel flat bar or angle along the length. On its own, a 200 cm top only 30 cm deep will bend and wobble, especially if someone leans on it. This is the rail drawn in the planner.
    • Stools: any 65 cm counter stools.

    Who should build it

    • Your kitchen fitter (recommended). They'll be cutting worktops and shortening that counter by 26 cm anyway. Adding the divider is about an hour's extra work, and they'll seal the cut edge so it doesn't swell from moisture. Ask for it in the same quote as the kitchen.
    • DIY: possible with a track saw (a straight cut 2 m long), edge banding for the cut side, and a drill for masonry. The cut and the stiffness are the tricky parts, so only do it yourself with the right tools.
    • Ready-made alternative: Castorama or Leroy Merlin cut worktops to size, but matching the kitchen's black exactly is unlikely.

Before ordering: the IKEA kitchen plan still has the short counter at full length. Shorten it there (96 → 70 cm, which means a narrower drawer unit) and add the extra worktop length, so the order and the fitter's quote include both.

Space: from the kitchen counter front to the bed is 150 cm = 70 cm kitchen aisle + 30 cm divider + 50 cm to get into the opened bed. With the oven door open (~50 cm) there's about 20 cm left behind you.

Electrical points on the bed wall — for the electrician
    • Who: an electrician with SEP qualifications (uprawnienia SEP do 1 kV). Ask the fit-out company (Jesion) first — they installed these points and know the cable routes.
    • ● Remove the small black wall light by the window (~130 cm high) — the bed cabinet covers it.
    • ● Cap the cable points low on the wall (two by the window, one at the kitchen-side edge of the bed): disconnect, terminate in a flush box with a flat blank cover — the 223 cm cabinet sits tight against the wall, nothing may stick out.
    • ● Power for the GENIUS LED shelf lights: use the existing double socket on the balcony wall, 29 cm high, ~55 cm from the corner (drawing). It's right beside the end of the bed unit, behind the sofa's side — the LED cable runs there out of sight. Use a flat / angled plug: there are only ~4 cm between the wall and the bed frame when it opens.
    • ● Tall LED wall light (by the kitchen-side edge of the bed): by my estimate it falls in the 50 cm strip used to get into the bed, so it can stay as a reading light — or be removed the same way if you don't want it.
    • Mark the cable routes before the bed is fitted. The GENIUS must be screwed to the wall at the top; a cable running up from the old light to the ceiling could be exactly where the brackets go.
    • Positions on the left wall are estimated from the photo (±15 cm); the window-wall socket is from the drawing.
Wall bed + sofa (GENIUS 140)
    • Unit 160 × 223 × 50 cm; with the sofa in front 142 cm deep; opened 241 cm. The sofa (165 × 92) stays in place — the bed folds down over it.
    • Must be fixed to a solid wall (not plasterboard) with the supplied brackets.
    • Mattress 140 × 200, max. 24 cm high, 25–35 kg.
    • Biały perła comes with silver handles — ask the shop for black ones to match the rest of the hardware.
    • Dark granite is not one of the quick-delivery Emma fabrics — confirm the exact fabric name and lead time with the shop.
    PAX wardrobe (hall)
    • 250 cm = frames 100 + 100 + 50, 58 deep, 236 high. 4 doors 50 × 229; the 50 cm section at the living-room end is open shelving.
    • IKEA Dostawka narożna 4 półki (default): the off-the-shelf open end unit — 53×58×236, biały 710 zł / imit. dębu bejc. na biało 735 zł, also szarobeżowy and ciemnoszary. Fixes to the side of the last PAX frame; with 2×100 frames the wardrobe is 253 cm and ends 20 cm before the radiator.
    • Other shelf ends: "50 frame, open front" is standard PAX (a 50 frame + KOMPLEMENT shelves, no door). "Corner" (open front and end) and "Facing the radiator" are not standard PAX — a PAX frame needs both side panels to stay rigid. Have a carpenter make the end unit from matching board, or use a 50 frame with its end panel kept and only the door left off.
    • The end of the wardrobe is 23 cm from the radiator, so shelves facing it are hard to reach — the corner version can be reached from the front too.
    • It covers the two electrical boxes by the entrance (24–52 cm from the corner, at 20 and 136 cm high). They must stay reachable — plan an empty section with a door in front of them, or start the wardrobe after them.
    Desk / table (window wall)
    • Wall is 114 cm on the drawing; the air-con duct takes ~10 cm in the corner, leaving ~104 cm. Measure both before buying.
    • TONSTAD extendable table: 80 cm folded fits along the wall; at 120 cm it's longer than the wall, so turn it to stick out into the room (seats 3–4).
    • Sockets are on the TV wall at 29 cm height, about 50 cm from that corner.
    Kitchen tiles vs worktop height
    • From the photos (using the 112 cm socket as a ruler) the tiles run roughly 92–152 cm — one row of 60 cm tiles — and about 2 m along the window-side wall.
    • An IKEA METOD worktop sits at about 92 cm (80 cm cabinet + 8 cm legs + 3.8 cm top), so the tiles start right at, or a few cm above, the worktop. They are not too low.
    • Measure floor → bottom of the tiles. If it's above 92 cm, fill the gap with a thin upstand cut from the leftover divider worktop. If it's below, the worktop would cover the bottom of the tiles — then raise the legs (METOD legs adjust a few cm). Moving the tiles means breaking them off — not worth it.
    • Wall cabinets usually start ~55 cm above the worktop (~147 cm), so they overlap the top of the tiles a little — that's normal.
    Measured vs estimated
    • Walls, doors, windows, shaft: from the inventory drawing (page 5).
    • Kitchen: measured off the IKEA planner top view — may be a few cm out.
    • Radiator (~60 × 185, 12 cm off the floor) and air-con duct (~10 × 10 cm): estimated from the IKEA 3D view.
Click the bed and drag it along its wall — the ruler shows the free space to each side. Arrow keys nudge 1 cm (Shift 10 cm). The wardrobe is fixed.
